Took the puppies down to the pond after bird work yesterday. Since it has been warming up it’s time to get these dogs introduced to water. To do this we like to take a group of dogs because those dogs that will dive right in will encourage those that may be a little timid. Since this was the first time for a lot of these dogs we didn’t push the dogs but let them do there own thing at there own pace. Once they realize that water is fun, cool, and exciting. Then we will start working the dogs on doing more retrieving so that when you kill a bird and it happens to land in the water your dog will not hesitate to retrieve just because of the water. It was fun to watch the puppies some would just dive right in and others would get there feet wet and then go out a little further each time. Getting dogs introduced to water at a young age is going make water training so much easier as the puppy grows and progresses in it’s training.
