Training With Electronic Launchers

Lately we have been using the remote dog launchers to teach young dogs not to creep on birds. Here’s the idea. After you have the dog well introduced to birds and birds flapping wings. Then start introducing them to the bird launchers. This nifty little tool allows you to place a bird inside a spring loaded trap. When the dog goes on point and you start to work your way around the dog most times he will try to move. Your trying to simulate a real hunting situation when the dog is on point and you move in front to kick the birds up. Typically young dogs start to creep and as soon as they do you hit the release button and the launcher shoots the bird up in the air. This gets the bird out of the area quickly and simulates what most wild birds would do if you started moving towards them or the dog started to creep in to close. The launcher allows you to give that immediate correction.  By doing this with lots of repetition the dog soon learns not to creep on birds.
