One tool that we use every time we go out training is a bird bag. This is a simple mesh bag that has a metal clamp type shutting mechanism fixed on the opening part of the bag, so when you close it the birds cant get out. This simple little tool is vital in saving time. It allows you to carry birds as you go into the field to train dogs, or just plant birds. The nice thing about it is you aren’t going back and forth to the truck to get new birds. Fill up the bag at the beginning of the session and re plant birds in your launcher or in the brush as you go along. It is also handy to use when you are doing the initial training with puppies like bird introduction you have lots of birds right at your finger tips. You can pick up one of these bags from any gun dog supply store and there cheap 20 dollars or so. Look for the one that has a pouch on the outside as well this comes in handy for picking up shotgun shells, or even stashing dead birds that you have shot for your dog. Using this bag helps keep things under control while training the dogs can’t see you caring around the birds, out of sight out of mind. I would highly recommend using this tool to keep your sessions organized and efficient.
