Another Great way to increase a puppy prey drive is to use a cliped winged pigeon. Most times we will clip one wing of the pigeon so that it can flap around and make all kinds of ruckus but it can’t fly away. We use a pigeon with a clipped wing to get a puppy all fired up. Sometimes when there young they need a little jump start for there prey drive. Throwing out one of these pigeons and letting the puppy chase, catch, and play with will increase his prey drive 100 % next thing you know you will have a puppy that is all fired up! We don’t do this with every puppy but it sure seems to work for some of those others that might not have been introduced to birds at an early age or just need a little shot of adrenaline to wake them up.
One way to help build your pups drive and confidence is to sweet talk him while he is on point. Let him know that he is doing a good job. Tell him that he is the best puppy, slowly stroke his back from head to flank, pick up his tail, and give him a lot of “that boys” . Letting a puppy know he is doing a good job is so important it will help boost his confidence he will hunt harder and longer.
Hello:
I recently lost my GWP to a tragic accident. We have owned and hunted with wirehairs for thirty years. The last two dogs we regularly groomed as we preferred that look. Actually we had them looking very much like shorthaired. So at this point I would like to make the switch to shorthairs. The temperament I’m sure is very similar.
We also prefer solid liver. The solid liver dogs in your web site are impressive looking as is , I’m sure, the pedigree.
We are not in a great hurry so we would like to be put on your list for a solid liver male pup if possible.
We live in Calgary, Alberta Canada
I noticed you sent a solid liver pup to Alberta recently

That’s a great question. Depending on how bold the particular puppy is. You could start as young as 8-12 weeks old. If you control it right.
Thanks
